Project Overview
Material Character at the Center of the Room
CRMM fabricated the cabinetry and reclaimed-white-oak vent hood that anchor this light-filled residential solarium, along with custom brass window pulls and a fitted butcher-block cutting board. The work brings tactile, naturally aging materials into a clean architectural setting.

Design Challenge
Letting the Material Tell the Story
The reclaimed white oak selected for the vent hood cracked during machining. Rather than disguising the break or replacing the material, the team and homeowner chose to retain it as an honest expression of the wood’s age and character.
Material Resolution
Reclaimed Oak and Custom Brass
The weathered oak hood provides warmth and texture, while custom brass window pulls add a refined counterpoint. Cabinetry below the hood and the fitted butcher-block cutting board complete the composition with durable, useful craftsmanship.
