Here at Cache River Mill & MetalWorks, we all have a secret love for black walnut.
Black walnut is a species that we are very familiar with. It has become extremely popular with our clients as of late and it always comes out incredibly rich and vibrant.
Recently, a client ordered a custom black walnut countertop for his center island in his kitchen, and we took a few pictures along the way.
The client asked for narrow planks of black walnut to give it more of a butcher block look.
We laid out the lumber and once we were satisfied with the overall pattern, we initiated the proper glue up process and clamped everything in place.
After the glue up process, the countertop was then placed on our 5-axis CNC machine to get both sides smoothed out.
After a few passes on each side, the countertop was machined evenly and smooth.
Once the machining operation was done and the countertop was properly smoothed on both sides, the CNC machine then used another operation to route the overall shape of the countertop and cut out the placement for the client's cooktop.
Once the operations were complete on the CNC machine, the black walnut countertop was then placed on a workbench. Our craftsmen did one final sanding process before the stain was added.
The end result is an absolutely stunning black walnut countertop that exceeded everyone's expectations!
